Uploading a video file to the Web is useful for sharing the file with friends or posting it on a personal website or blog. A WMV is one of the most popular video formats and is supported by most file hosting and video sharing sites. To share the WMV through email or post it on a personal site, use a free file hosting service such as Photobucket or ImageShack. Each site provides you with a direct link and HTML code for the video. To upload the WMV to a video sharing site, consider using a popular site such as YouTube.
Navigate to Photobucket (link in Resources).
Register for a free Photobucket account by clicking the “Sign Up” link. If you have a Facebook or Twitter account, you can skip the registration process and use your social media account to log in to the site.
Click the “Upload” button on the Photobucket toolbar and then click the “Select photos and videos” button. Navigate through your folders in the Windows Explorer dialog box and select the WMV file you want to upload.
Click the “Save and continue to my album” button when the upload process completes. The video will be added to your Photobucket album automatically.
Hover your mouse over the video’s thumbnail image to view the email, HTML and direct link codes to share the file.
Navigate to ImageShack (link in Resources). Click the “Sign Up” button and register for a free account.
Click the “Media Upload” tab. Check the box next to the “Images/Videos” option and then click the “Browse” button. Navigate through your folders, select the WMV file you want to upload and then click “Open.”
Click the “Upload Now” button. The Upload Successful message will be displayed when the process is complete and the video will be added to your ImageShack media library online. Use the HTML code to insert the video on a website or blog. To share the video on a social networking site or in an email, use the Link code.
Navigate to YouTube and click the “Sign In” button. If you have a Gmail account, enter your username and password to log in to YouTube. If you don’t have a Gmail account, click the “Create an Account” to register for a free account.
Click the “Upload” link and then click the “Select files from your computer” button. Navigate through your folders in the File Upload dialog box, choose the WMV file you want to upload and click “Open.”
Enter a description of the video and then enter keywords in the Tags field. The keywords will help viewers locate your video on the site.
Select the category that best describes the video, such as Comedy, Entertainment or Music.
Click the “Privacy Settings” drop-down menu and select your preferred setting, such as public or private. When selecting the Public setting, anyone can view the video on YouTube. If you want to share the video with specific people, select the Private option.
Select a licensing option from the “License and Rights Ownership” drop-down menu. The Standard YouTube License prohibits viewers from copying and distributing your work while the Creative Commons option grants viewers permission to reuse the video.
Click the “Advanced Settings” tab to disable the comments and responses sections on the video’s YouTube page. By default, YouTube allows viewers to comment on videos you post to the site.
Click the “Save Changes” button. The video will be added to your YouTube channel automatically.
