How to Sync Your iPod to iTunes

by David Lipscomb Google

Without syncing your important data to your iPod, it's nothing more than a compact and stylish paperweight. IPods offer multiple methods to sync with iTunes, getting your contacts, music and contacts on-board. All iPod models can use a dock connector for syncing, but the Wi-Fi enabled iPod Touch also syncs over your wireless network or via iCloud.

    Wired Sync

    Step 1

Connect your iPod to your computer with the dock cable. Allow a few seconds for iTunes to open.

    Step 2

Locate your iPod from the "Devices" list. Click on the individual "Info," "Music," "Apps," "Tones" and any other list you want to sync. Click on the individual checkboxes to enable syncing with your iPod. Click on the individual options and playlist files within each category to further fine-tune media to be updated to your iPod.

    Step 3

Click "Sync" to upload your changes. Click the eject icon next to your iPod device's name to safely remove the device.

    Wi-Fi Sync

    Step 1

Tap on "Settings" on your iPod Touch. Tap "Wi-Fi," and slide the "Wi-Fi" switch to the right to activate the feature.

    Step 2

Tap on the name of your Wi-Fi network from the "Choose a Network" list. Press the home button on the face of the iPod Touch to go back to your home screen.

    Step 3

Dock your iPod Touch to your computer. Allow a few seconds for iTunes to open.

    Step 4

Click on the "Summary" tab. Scroll down to the "Options" box. Click on the "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi" box.

    Step 5

Tap "Settings" on your iPod Touch. Tap "General," then choose "iTunes Wi-Fi Sync." Look for the name of your computer. Tap "Sync Now" to begin the process.

    iCloud Syncing

    Step 1

Tap "Settings" on your iPod Touch. Tap the "iCloud" button next.

    Step 2

Enter your Apple ID and password when prompted. Tap "Done" to sign in to your iCloud account.

    Step 3

Slide the apps you want to sync to the cloud to the right. Dock your iPod Touch to your computer.

    Step 4

Click on your iPod Touch's name under the "Devices" list. Click on the "Summary" tab. Scroll down, and click on the "Back up to iCloud." Any time you add content all iCloud devices automatically sync with each other.

    Tips

    • If you plug your iPod Touch into AC power, Wi-Fi sync begins automatically. You may perform the task manually at any time.
