How to Program a Philips Remote Control Without the Codes

by C. Taylor

Some Philips Universal Remote Controls let you program the remote by direct code entry. These codes are listed in the instruction manual or you can use Philip's code finder utility on its website. However, if do not have access to either, or the device is not listed, using the direct code entry method is impossible. As an alternative, Philips Universal Remote Controls also have a code search feature, which is a potentially time-consuming, manual process, but it allows for programming devices without knowing the device's code.

    Step 1

Turn on the device you wish to program into the Philips Universal Remote Control.

    Step 2

Press and hold the "Code Search" button on the remote control. Release the button after the red indicator light continually illuminates.

    Step 3

Press the device button, such as "TV," "CLB," "DVD," "VCR" or "SAT." Doing so causes the indicator light to blink off and back on.

    Step 4

Press the "CHAN +" button repeatedly until the device changes channels. Each time you press the "CHAN +" button, the red indicator light blinks again. If you press the "CHAN +" button after the device changes channels, press the "CHAN -" button to reverse the search direction. When the device changes channels again, stop.

    Step 5

Press the "Mute" button to save the code.
