How to Program the Dish Network Remote

by Adrian Grahams Google

Setting up your Dish Network remote control handset to operate your TV set and other video equipment means you won't have to keep switching between multiple remote controls each time you want to change channel, turn up the volume or operate other key functions on your Dish Network PVR or TV set. To operate your TV set and other devices with the Dish Network remote control you must pair the remote to the device with a specific remote code. The basic Dish Network remote can operate just your TV set, while the more advanced platinum remote control will pair with a range of other devices, including VCRs, amplifiers and cable set-top boxes.

    Operate Your TV Set

    Step 1

Switch on the TV set and the Dish Network PVR.

    Step 2

Find the remote code for your TV set brand in the codes list in the remote control manual. If you can't find the manual, you may also find the remote code in the user manual for the TV set or on the manufacturer's support website.

    Step 3

Press and hold down the red "TV" button until the red indicator lights up.

    Step 4

Enter the three-digit remote code for your TV set brand with the remote control's number keypad. The red indicator light should stay on after you enter the code.

    Step 5

Press the "OK" button. The red indicator light should flash three times.

    Step 6

Press the red "TV" button to power off the set, and then push the red "TV" button again to switch on the set.

    Step 7

Press a few of the buttons on the Dish Network remote control to ensure it operates the TV set. If the buttons work, you've successfully paired the device. If not, repeat this procedure with another remote code for your TV brand, because most brands have several possible remote codes.

    Operate Other Equipment

    Step 1

Switch on the device you want to operate with the Dish Network platinum remote control.

    Step 2

Find the brand remote code for the device in the codes list in the user manual or in the device's own user manual.

    Step 3

Press and hold down the button for the device you want to control -- for example, the "VCR" button. If using auxiliary mode for devices connected to the TV set, press and hold down the "AUX" button, and then press "0" for a second TV set, "1" for a second VCR or "2" for a tuner, amplifier or cable set-top box.

    Step 4

Enter the remote code for the selected device with the remote control's number pad.

    Step 5

Press the "#" key on the remote control. The device button flashes three times.

    Step 6

Press the "Power" button to switch off the device, and then press the same button again to switch on the device.

    Step 7

Press a selection of buttons on the Dish Network remote control to ensure it operates the device. If the remote doesn't control the device, repeat this procedure with another remote code for your device brand.

    Tips

    • Weak or failing batteries in the Dish Network remote control can prevent successful pairing. If in doubt, put new batteries in the remote control before carrying out this procedure.
