How to Change the Mouse Sensitivity

by Christina Shaffer

When you install a new mouse, the cursor’s sensitivity levels may be different from the ones you were used to on your old mouse. This can make it difficult to complete even the most basic tasks on your computer, including scrolling and opening a desktop folder. Whether you want to increase or decrease the sensitivity of the mouse, you can alter the default motion settings directly in the Windows Control Panel.

    Step 1

Click the "Start" button and click "Control Panel."

    Step 2

Click “Hardware and Sound” and then click the “Mouse” link in the Devices and Printers section.

    Step 3

Click the “Pointer Options” tab on the Mouse Properties dialog box.

    Step 4

Under Motion, click and drag the slider to the left to decrease the speed of the cursor or to the right to increase the speed of the cursor. Experiment with different motion levels until you’re satisfied.

    Step 5

Click the “Apply” button to save the setting and then click “OK” to exit the Mouse Properties dialog box.
